a Giant amongst Butter-flies

Papilio cresphontes:  Giant Swallow-tail Butter-fly
http://www.butterflygardeningandconservation.com/butterfly/st/giant.php

These are so beautiful in size and colour arrangement even though they are less showy than their relatives. This guy was probably 13 cm across the wings. I do not see these often but when I do it is a show stopper. I have a lot of Echinacea purpurea, Purple Cone Flowers in my garden as well as Eupatorium purpureum, Joe-pie Weed and these seem to be a favourite here. This guy has settled onto a Echinacea purpurea , Purple Cone Flower. They never stay long but they do  come back a couple times a day.
Always worth having the camera in the garden with you.

  2. I made a mistake for this picture. I had changed the pic but did not change the right up. It is on a purple cone flower and not a cosmos. I will fix that now
