Chive flowers in my Herb Garden

Alexander Mackenzie Explorer Rose, this is incredible

A Ragosa, A wild rose bloom. This plant came from the Farm out in Saskatchewan

Who can resist the Butter-cup. I let a few always grow in the garden.

Just a few pics from the day, nothing special really but it is nice to share a bit of ones day!!!!

What is your favourite part of your day in your Garden?

For me it is to walk around with a coffee in hand and watching my dog go crazy first thing in the morning!!!!!

  2. hi sonny..these flowers are all so beautiful but what really caught my eye is the pair of those lovely doves.
i love doves but this year we have not had too many.
they are such sweet and gentle birds.
did you know if they lose their mate that they will never marry again but keep single?
in the bible sonny, the dove is a picture of the holy spirit.
    Genesis 8:11
And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

    Matthew 3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

sonny, i can never resist buttercups either, when we were kids we used to put them under our chins and if our chins reflected the yellow, then it meant that we loved butter.
but WHO wouldn't love butter in those happy but poor days that we lived in our beloved manitoba.?..after all we never GOT it!
it was margarine city all the ways in those days..ha!

this, as usual is a wonderful post sonny sikora!..........love terry

  3. I love the doves myself. This pair is nesting in my Spruce tree just behind the house. They are wonderful to have here. I actually did not know that they mate for life that is fascinating. Wonderful as well to learn something every day

  6. Reg the white flowered plant in the second picture is not a rose. How much of a scent does Alexander Mackenzie have?

  7. The Mackenzie has what I would say is a light sent. However with so many blooms it is very noticeable.
Thanx for the info on that picture. I was sure it was a rose as it has the heavy thorniness along the branches and the leaf is very rose like. Also it produces red hops in the fall. I will take more pictures and post them to see if any one can determine what it is. It is a mystery to me then for sure. As far as I know this plant is very old. It was here as long as my Grandparents lived on this land.

  8. Melanie, I asked a neighbour of mine who is something of an expert on Roses ( Horticultural society head) just a few minutes ago. He stated that indeed it is a rose, however, what probably happened is that this is the graft root for one that was planted originally. The graft probably froze off or died at some point and the root of the original root took hold as it was much more hardy. All in all it is fascinating, I have never seen this myself, except for this one plant. It is huge about 2 meters tall and very wide. I should state as well that this rose is not on my property any longer as a part of the land was sold some years ago to another relative, and it was there. So it is now next door. I can say that I do not like the rose and if it was mine I would take it out.
