a Tree that needed removal

Acer saccharum, Sugar Maple
To-day was a bit of a sad day for me. I had to have a Sugar Maple cut down. It was a 100 year old specimen. Unfortunately it was suffering from rot in the main trunk and had become dangerous. It was 25 meters tall and provided much shade and a wonderful home for many creatures year round. At any rate I decided to do it at this time before wild life created nesting homes within a few weeks. This was my second tallest tree, my biggest is doing just fine. That one is also a Sugar Maple and is over 30 meters in height. It is said to be the 3rd tallest tree in our town.

i always hate to see a tree cut down.
this tree was part of your family for sure.
was this the house your gramma and grandpa lived in.
they must of seen that tree growing for years.
    way too sad!
did you cut it down yourself or did the city do it?
do you think that the same birds that nested there all these years will be able to cope with this or will they fight with the other birds for your healthy tree?
yes indeed ..what a sad day for you!..love terry

  2. This tree was one in the back yard. My Grandparents actually did not like it as it put up too much shade in the Garden. I had to hire to get it done and wow what a cost. The tree was just way to big, and a meter across at the bottom. The Birds will fight for what is left of the tree properties for sure. Still there is lots of trees back there for them. Biggest problem will be for the squirrel.
