The Japanese Beetle

This is the Japanese Beetle. If you live in Southern Ontario or New England you will know about this guy.

If you have one you have hundreds, maybe thousands

Before you see damage this is how it looks. You will not even see them.

This picture of the Queen Elizabeth II rose was taken at 13:00 hrs to-day. The next was taken at 18:00 hrs to-day. If you look you will see one in the rose centre of the one on the lower left

It only took 5 hours for this to happen.

Here is a Chrysler Imperial Rose under attack, it is 3 meters from the Queen Elizabeth II Rose. This is about two hours after the visible attack began.

Even this Explorer Rose, Which tend to be bug resistant is no match for the Japanese Beetle.

I allowed the damage to-day to go on so I could show you all what this beetle is and what it can do.
here is a site to find out more about what they are and the controls.

  2. It really is. Worst thing is you can not win against them. I could spray the gardens and hat will control them but it will kill every thing else as well. So a bit of a problem with these guys

  8. Not a problem Melanie, I actually did this one for you as you said you had not heard of them before. That is a good thing. I hope they never get there. Apparently they are now in British Columbia as well but on the lower main land. I did not suggest any cures here as I really do not have one that actually works just for them.

I guess it proves that i am willing to show the ugly side of the garden as well from time to time

  15. The beetle became a major problem as soon as the province banned pesticides. This beetle will eat fruit and nursery crops as well. It is an expensively destructive pest.

Take a trip to the US and buy whatever it takes to rid them.
