The centre of a dinner plate Hibiscus.
Le centre d'une assiette Hibiscus.
This flower was 23 cm across, it was huge. I hope my hand gives an indication of the size. Despite the dirty hand I was working in the garden at this moment!!!!
Some red peppers from the garden. I pickled these guys as I had so many.
Certains poivrons rouges du jardin. J'ai mariné ces gars-là que j'ai eu tant d'années. Wild Turkeys, These were at where I work. It was amazing to see these, The red is so slight here, but it is in the pic barely. I never seen wild turkeys before this.
A segment of one of those huge windmills going past my home, and a neighbour and her Shih-tzu. This is the third segment of those things, and there is another that goes above this. Fascinating!!!!
Fascinant!!

This is the second segment of one of those huge windmills. I never managed a base picture.
comfy abode you got there:)
ReplyDeletebtw, that's "gumamela", filipino name for that vibrant flower.
Love the huge Red hibiscus!
ReplyDeleteHappy RT!
Lola & Nora:)
btw Vacation / Staycation Over?
Your hibiscus blossom is enormous!
ReplyDeleteI'm stunned by the sight of your perfect and oh, so beautiful hibiscus.
ReplyDelete(I like the gardener's hand too.Never could work with gloves myself. I've got to touch and feel both the plants and the soil).
The size of the flower is beyond my imagination. Hibiscus flowers only bloom indoors by us, and then at most with the size of an egg. How strong must the stalk be to keep this flower from bending to the ground?
Good luck with your green thumbs! Actually there is no such thing, only hard and persistent labor, sprinkled with love.
Felisol, I was actually not going to post the pic with the dirty hand. But then I decided any gardener would understand the look!!!!! I hate wearing gloves when gardening as well.
ReplyDeleteI have three of these huge plants in the garden. one of which is white. that one gives huge flowers as well but not like this red one. I actually wish the stocks were stronger as they do bend over a fair bit. Small price to pay to enjoy them.
We've got lots of hibiscus (gumamela) here but it's the first time I've seen a huge one. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely,,, and big!
ReplyDeleteI never considered hibiscus as a northern plant, now I know I was wrong! Do you have to protect them from the winter?
ReplyDeleteAnd those windmills are definitely enormous!
I didn't know they can grow that big. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Ruby!
hi sonny...so glad that you must be feeling better by now...you must be since you have taken these great pictures!
ReplyDeletethat is some big flower!..never mind that your hands are a bit dirty from tending to your flowers and plants...sure wouldn't look like you didn't do any work at all if they were lily white!
sonny, those turkeys are just gorgeous!
we have a friend who lived on darby road in welland out in the country and the deer and wild turkeys are at the edge of his back yard many times and they are safe because he had a sign that says "no hunting".
sonny do you know where the short-hills in fonthill are? well if you go out there at the right time of day, you will see lots of turkeys enjoying life and freedom running the hills and valleys!
happy ruby tuesday and make sure to take care of yourself and eat your chicken soup!...oh that doesn't just sound right for some reason!..love terry
Thanx Terry. It is so nice that you sent me this note. I think I am the last person to ever see a wild turkey around here. I was amazed by it.
ReplyDeleteI also like the giant hibiscus.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a hibiscus that huge. The ones that grow here are all normal size. Your peppers look delicious too.

really interesting pics- great macro shots
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a dinner-plate hibiscus before. It's certainly impressive.
ReplyDeleteThe first year I grew these I could not believe it when they bloomed out. I was as stunned as any-one. Most people think they are fake till they touch them. Sadly the bloom only lasts for two days
ReplyDeleteyou had me with the dinner plate flower!!!
ReplyDeleteoh how i love red !!!!
thank you....
Very cool, and tres ruby!
ReplyDeleteHi Reg ~~ I like your find, the dinner plate Hibiscus. I hadn't known of these. It makes me wonder if something that big and pretty could be grown from seed.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see the parts of the windmill. Rather, wind turbine stand. They are huge. We see them on the freeway here leaving the port area for who knows where.
My thumb definitedly isn't green. I grow nothing.
Happy Ruby Tuesday. Thank you for peeking in on me. I have been in hiding from RT for a few months now.
..
BTW, we were in Quebec City and Montreal for last week. Things were pretty around there.
..
I lived in Montreal for 4 years a long time ago. I love that city. Ville du Quebec is so incredibly beautiful. I often think that the older parts are in Europe and I just got transported there some how !!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have your back Reg. That Hibiscus is fabulous, nice colour. How interesting to have a windmill or is it going to be plural?
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such a huge hibiscus flower. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNice selection of reds ! I love to drink hibiscus tea out of the dried flowers !
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is a super macro!
ReplyDeleteI want some of these. :)
it's always nice to get a comment from you Reg ... the windmill looked really interesting; I wonder what it will look like when it's put up? but it must be going up somewhere close to you as the streets it's goings through are so small.
ReplyDeleteMy Ruby Redness
Oh my oh my! That IS a GIANT hibiscus! And I should know, there are PLENTY of them here, I've been shooting them, but never have I seen one that bright magenta and that big! The rest of your post if fun, but this flower is totally WOW!A REAL RUBY!

ReplyDeleteMy Ruby Link for you
Love the size of the hibiscus! Great red peppers. Nice to have you back!
ReplyDeleteThat hybiscus is beyond fantastic. And I wanted to dive into that plate of red peppers. I can taste their roasted flavor: they are the best sandwich add-on. Yumm.
ReplyDeleteYou have lovely and fresh rubies here.
ReplyDeleteSpice Up Your Life with Ruby Tuesday!
I've never seen a hibiscus that large -- in fact, I didn't know they came that large. (And as for the piece on my Ruby Tuesday post, when I get my photography site up, you can buy one for your wall).
ReplyDeleteThat flower is beyond gorgeous. It is sublime.
ReplyDeleteThat hibiscus is stunning! Just beautiful. I'm so glad I found your blog - I'm practicing my French with it! :))

My gosh what a fabulous collection of reds! You are almost too generous (I would have made a dozen posts out of that many pictures!). The peppers look so delicious, they are my favorite vegetable and Im jealous.
ReplyDeleteWe have seen those windmills going down the freeway -- an amazing sight. I've never managed to get a picture of them.
It is good of you to translate -- thank you for sharing. You have such a beautiful blog.
