Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Pheucticus ludovicianus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose-breasted_GrosbeakI really know very little about these guys. We actually do not see these often. However when we do, they are showy and interesting. They are actually large, about the size of an American Robin but heavier looking.
These are related to the Cardinalidae:, Cardinal Family.
They do sound very similar to the American Robin as well.
dear sonny...this little guy kind of reminds me of the meadow lark from our beloved manitoba. what a sweetie pie he is!...love terry
ReplyDeleteThese guys are wonderful. Very beautiful in deed. I love seeing these but it is rare. I miss the Meadow Larks in Manitoba. they where my favourite bird there.I remember lots of them would hang out on the power-lines in front of our house in Wheatland
ReplyDeletehahaha...those guys used to hang out on the power lines near that little turquoise bungalow in wheatland where the sikora kids lived...that is so cute and yet so funny sonny...love terry
